摘要
Chinese international contractors (CICs) have achieved remarkable progress and are posing a rise tendency in international construction market. Through interview, literature review, statistical data and policies review, this paper identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of CICs. It shows that CICs have built up strengths in certain areas in international markets, and suggests that they are becoming competitors to other overseas contractors. However, the differences between the Chinese domestic construction market and overseas construction market require the Chinese contractors to examine their strengths and weaknesses by considering different attributes. For example, the costs, technologies, places and experiences are their strengths, while integration of design and build, finance, and human resources are their weaknesses. Based on the analysis, the strategies for enhancing CICs' competitiveness in international market are proposed. These proposals were presented to the professionals for comments on the applicability of the proposals in interview discussions. A Chinese international contractor was invited help testing the applicability by comparing their practice with what proposed.
