The mean value of Hardy's function in short intervals is considered in a mean square sense over short intervals lying in a longer interval. Three approaches to this problem are presented and compared. (C) 2015 Royal Dutch Mathematical Society (KWG). Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
