Mott-Hubbard transition in finite one- and two-dimensional lattices: Exact results

摘要
We present exact analytical results for the critical field h(c) and the criteria for the Mott-Hubbard behavior in rings and two-dimensional coupled chains of arbitrary size. It is shown that the interaction between an electron and hole, which changes the itinerant regime and brings on exciton binding and localization, depends on the lattice geometry of the finite size system. The results in the two-dimensional system, consisting of an arbitrary number of finite length coupled chains also supports our conjecture regarding the Mott-Hubbard transition and parity effect in finite systems.
