Multinucleon transfer in the reaction 12C(14N, d)24Mg and spectroscopic factors of heavy clusters

The spectroscopic amplitudes of heavy clusters for low-lying states of the Mg-24 nucleus have been calculated for the first time. On this basis, the possibility of describing the available experimental cross sections for the reaction C-12(N-14, d)Mg-24 at 29 and 35 MeV that results in the transitions to the ground (0(+)) and the first excited (2(+), E-x = 1.37 MeV) state of the Mg-24 nucleus has been analyzed within the direct cluster-transfer mechanism. The calculations have been performed by the distorted-wave method with allowance for C-12 cluster transfers from the incident nucleus and B-10 duster transfers from the target nucleus both in the ground state and excited states. The above direct mechanism faithfully reproduces the angular distributions of deuterons. At the same time, the experimental and calculated cross sections have been found to be drastically different (by a factor on the order of 10(2)). Problems in the theory of the cluster structure of nuclei have been discussed with reference to the points that could explain this discrepancy. it has been shown that the scale of the discrepancy between the theoretical and experimental results is close to the scale of distinctions between the spectroscopic factors as obtained in the traditional approach and the more recent approach due to Fliessbach.
