摘要
Introduction Pelvic organ prolapse recurrence after initial surgical treatment is an important medical problem, it's management often proving to be a real challenge. Less than 35% of the patients with prolapse recurrence after surgical management will seek medical advice for another surgery. Material and methods We have analyzed the current regarding pelvic organe prolapse recurrence after its surgical treatment in order to underline the importance and complexity of this pathology, as well as of its risk factors. Discussions The rate of recurrence after POP surgery is estimated to range between 30% and 60%, this large variation depending on the surgeon's experience and approach, as well as on other risk factors such as: preoperatory prolapse high stage, patients age, previous surgery for prolapse, levator ani injury during delivery, obesity and daily effort that associates a constant intra-abdominal increased pressure. Conclusions Recurrence after the surgical treatment of POP may often negatively affect the patient's well- being, due to the numerous bothersome symptoms that this pathology usually associates.
