NUMERICAL STUDY OF CLOSELY SPACED TWIN CIRCULAR JETS

Closely spaced twin circular jets are numerically simulated using the standard k-epsilon turbulence model and an in-house developed computational fluid dynamics solver. Code validation and grid convergence test for the solver are performed. The twin jets are simulated for a fixed Reynolds number with three nozzle spacings, S/d = 0, 1, and 2. The parameter S/d = 1 is new in the literature and represents the minimum possible nozzle spacing for twin jets. Radial profiles of different flow properties are presented for four axial locations, x/d = 1, 5, 10, and 30. Obtained results show that the increase in internozzle spacing prolongs the flow development, augments the centerline velocity decay, enhances the species concentration reduction, and further shows that centerline mean velocity and mean species concentration of an equivalent single jet decay faster than twin jets.
