摘要
As the elderly population grows the incidence of hospitalized patients with dementia will continue to increase. It is of the utmost importance that health care providers develop a better understanding of the disease process, possess a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis, recognize the limitation in the available evidence for managing critically ill patients with dementia, establish goals of care early with the patient or health care proxy, and judiciously use health care resources and prevent any pain and suffering that can result in unwanted and futile care.
