Networking technologies are starting to invade the ordinary home to carry phone signals and television programs, link computers and peripherals, and tap into the Internet. With home networking, it is also possible for electric utilities to remotely control the flow of electricity into individual homes and to read their meters automatically. The market will possibly grow as analysts predict. But the model for home networking will change again if and when a new affordable and easily installed fiber optic technology appears.
