摘要
The impact of outcomes studies in clinical practice is dependent upon the influence of the changing US healthcare system and the consequences of the flux of society on outcomes studies. In this review, the impact of outcomes studies on entry into clinical practice, access of patients to care, care delivery itself and the management of clinical practice, are reviewed. The contribution of the American Academy of Neurology and the role of its 1997 Strategic Plan to determine the future of the profession of neurology through outcomes studies, is included. Patients and the profession have much to gain and much at risk as the US healthcare system evolves. Opportunities for future outcomes Studies to impact these changes are explored.
