Interfacial observation of an alkylsilane self-assembled monolayer on hydrogen-terminated Si

摘要
The interfacial binding properties of alkylsilane self-assembled monolayer on hydrogen-terminated Si, were analyzed using high-resolution electron microscopy (HR-TEM). It was observed that octadecyltrichlorosilane self assembled monolayer (OTS-SAM) can indeed anchor onto a hydrated silicon surface. No SiO2 interlayer was observed to form between an OTS-SAM and hydrogen-terminated Si(001) surface. The results show that static water-contact angle on the Si:H substrate increased with immersion time in anhydrous toluene containing 1.0 vol% of OTS molecules and reached 110°.
