摘要
In recent years, television systems having a wider field of view (FOV) and higher spatial resolution than conventional systems have been proposed to offer an immersive viewing experience. However, few studies have investigated the effects of increasing the temporal resolution or frame rate of television systems. Assuming that people will likely use wide-FOV TVs at home in the future, we quantitatively analyzed the effects of increased frame rate and the viewing distance through a subjective evaluation of the moving picture quality. The results indicated that the moving picture quality improved more with an increase in frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (fps) than from 120 to 240 fps when viewing from a distance of 3 H (three times the image height). Furthermore, the effect of viewing distance on the moving picture quality was not statistically significant, and the degree of improvement depended upon the picture content.
