Design of A Low-Profile Dual Circularly Polarized Phased Array Antenna

摘要
A low-profile dual circularly polarized antenna array is proposed, employing cavity-backed patch antenna as elements. Circular polarization is obtained by feeding a pair of orthogonal linear polarization simultaneously with 900 phase shift using a branch-line coupler. The antenna element achieves impedance bandwidth of 32.8% (vertical bar S-11 vertical bar <-10dB) and isolation bandwidth of 17.1% (vertical bar S-21 vertical bar <-10dB). The sequentially rotated 2x2 subarray exhibits impedance bandwidth of 15% (vertical bar S-11 vertical bar <-10dB) and the axial ratio remains below 0.08dB. The overall height of the antenna is 12.5mm, which is about 0.1 lambda at the center frequency 2.4GHz. Simulation results show that the 2x8 array achieves a wide beam scanning capability of +/- 60 degrees.
