A ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic bilayer system with a transverse crystal field

ePhase diagrams of a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic bilayer system consisting of two magnetic monolayers (A and B) with different spins (S-A = 1/2 and S-B = 1,3/2) and different interaction constants coupled together in a transverse crystal field are studied. Within the framework of the effective-field theory with correlations, the effects of the transverse crystal field in the monolayer B on the magnetic properties are investigated in detail for the square lattice. We have obtained some interesting results that may potentially be related to experimental work on rare-earth/transition-metal multilayer films. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
