Cloning and sequence analysis of glnB-like gene from nitrogen-fixing Paenibacillus polymyxa G2

A 240 bp gInB-like gene fragment was PCR amplified from Paenibacillus polymyxa G2 using universal degenerate primers. These degenerate primers, based on all known gInB-like genes including the nrgB of Bacillus subtilis at the time of design, were chosen from highly conserved amino acid sequences. The GInB-like sequence of A polymyxa G2 had relatively high identities (more than 70%) to other bacteria GInB, e.g. Escherichia coli (78%) and Klebsiella pneuomoniae (79%). However, the identity of the A polymyxa GInB-like sequence to a GlnK homologue (NrgB) of B. subtilis was low (46%). This is the first report of the sequence of the gInB-like gene from the genus Paenibacillus. Knowledge of the gInB-like gene sequence of P. polymyxa will make us study deeply the function of gInB in the genus Paenibacillus.
