Strong landslide phenomena have repeatedly been observed in the past in the area of the recent appearance of Malakassa landslide. The narrow landslide area is structured by formations of the Pelagonian zone of Neopaleozoic to Jurassic age and Quaternary deposits. The alpine deformation is expressed by two systems of closed folds, NNW-SSE and ENE-WSW axial planes direction. The recent brittle deformation affects the area through three normal fault systems, of ESE-WNW, NNE-SSE and NE-SW direction.
