摘要
The quinoxaline molecule belongs to the heterocyclic compounds, which occurs in a wide range of pharmaceutical ingredients and natural products. In addition, the quinoxalines are also used for the preparation of chromophores and as electroluminescent materials. The quinoxalines find a major industrial application as inhibitors for corrosion of metals and alloys. The presence of two nitrogen along with two aromatic rings can afford the quinoxaline molecule effective coverage over the metallic surface. This article presents an overview of literature on the application of quinoxaline and its derivatives in corrosion inhibition. In addition, the different synthesis strategies of quinoxalines and the diverse application of the quinoxaline substituted scaffold in different areas is described herein. A comprehensive review on the adsorption and corrosion inhibition performance of quinoxalines using experimental and computational studies is presented. A mechanism is proposed for the adsorption and the corrosion protection of quinoxalines. Some of the future prospects of research in this area are also discussed for interested readers and researchers. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
