Abstract Prevalence of obesity has continuously been increasing in the last decade. Nearly half of the population of Germany are affected by overweight, so that all rescue workers have to deal with this challenge. Besides alterations in physiology, medical complications (e.g. higher rate of difficult airways), logistic and technical problems concerning rescue and transport of obese patients are the main challenges.
