Enhancement Techniques for Side-Scan Sonar Image Mosaics

摘要
According to the inhomogenity of the whole side-scan sonar image mosaics, the grey level histogram equalization technique by balancing local versus global histogram contributes is described in this paper. We applied this technique to the side-scan sonar imagery of certain regions in the survey in Arabic sea. After the enhancement processing, the brightness of the given survey area image mosaics is uniform, and the image preserve the relative backscattering contrast of geological features while improving the overall appearance for interpretation.
