La Regenta by Leopoldo Alas 'Clarin' between graphic novel and web

Although it dwelt for a long time in the shadows, today La Regenta (1884-85) by Leopoldo Alas 'Clarin' is considered a masterpiece among late-nineteenth-century Spanish novels. Its recognition as a modern classic, though still "limited," began in the Fifties of the twentieth century and has not stopped since. La Regenta's significance for the contemporary period is demonstrated by its many rewritings. This paper provides a review of these before analyzing in greater detail its adaptation as a graphic novel (1999-2001) by Isaac del River, as well as the presence on the Internet of websites devoted to the novel and its author.
