Mechanically Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Novel Metasurface for Frequency Tuning-range Improvement

摘要
A frequency-reconfigurable antenna with mechanical tuning, providing the frequency tuning from 2.51 to 3.70 GHz, is presented. The design comprises a slot antenna and a novel metasurface (MS) with isosceles triangular-loop unit cells. Through pivoting of the novel MS, this antenna achieved good performance in the frequency reconfiguration. Moreover, the reconfigurable antenna have the advantages of compact structure with a diameter of 50mm and a height of 3mm, and good radiation efficiency of up to 90% across the tuning-range. Measured and simulated results testify the wide frequency tunablity of the reconfigurable antenna, and demonstrate it is suitable for advanced multi-standard wireless communication applications.
