摘要
The most serious challenge facing the middle mine, which refers to a heterogeneous infrastructure owned by many competing entities, and approaches to overcoming the challenges and improving performance on the Internet is discussed. The middle mine of Internet is made up of the peering and transit points where networks trade traffic and little incentive to build out capacity. The prevalence of these Internet reliability and peering point problems means that the longer data must travel through the middle mile, the more it is subject to congestion, packet loss and poor performance. The real growth of Internet lies in bandwidth-intensive web content, rich media, and web and IP-based applications is just the beginning. There are many challenges as businesses move more of their critical functions on-line, and as consumer entertainment shift to the Internet from other broadcast media, and the stresses placed on middle mine will become apparent and detrimental.
