Effects of Part Size on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy Fabricated by Electron Beam Melting

摘要
Effects of part size on microstructure and mechanical properties of of Ti-6Al-4V alloy fabricated by electron beam melting were investigated. The results indicate that EBM Ti-6Al-4V specimens mainly consist of alpha+beta phase. The a lamellas become thinner and contain higher density of dislocations with decrease of the specimen diameter, which result in higher strength and lower ductility of EBM specimens. Above relation between part size and mechanical properties of EBM Ti-6Al-4V specimens is obvious when the diameter of the specimens is less than 4 mm, and no significant differences are found between strength and ductility for specimens with larger diameter. The thickness of the a lamellas increases with the distance from the building plate and tends to remain stable values at the certain building distance. The unstable a lamellas area decreases with the smaller specimens.
