摘要：

In this paper, we introduce the concept of prewrapping that allows us to give a general and unified description of best approximation tools. With topological arguments we give useful characterizations of the proximinality of a set and we study properties that cover and improve classical results concerning the semicontinuity of the multivalued function of best approximation.
