摘要
A controllable viewing angle optical film (CVOF) using a microprism array filled with liquid crystal is proposed, the display performance of small and large viewing angles can be tunable for liquid-crystal displays (LCDs). Two microprisms with different heights are formed in the proposed optical film. The different diffuse abilities of the proposed optical film can be obtained by adjusting the applied voltage, the contrast loss problem of the conventional optical film is solved. Our simulation results reveal that the contrast of the normal viewing angle is increased from 1429 to 4909 as the applied voltage is zero, and the brightness is increased by 41.4% and 89.4% at the large polar viewing angle (45 degrees and 60 degrees) when the applied voltage is 15 V, respectively.
