Dynastic festivities in Lima: Celebrating a local history

In the context of the very official and stereotyped dynastic festivities, little by little an American consciousness has been developing. The festive elements in these ceremonies bear witness to the greatness of the monarch and of the Empire. Through the exaltation of their history, history of the Conquest and Inca history, the people of Lima strive to integrate into the Spanish Empire and to obtain acknowledgement of their position within the Empire. The imaginary recreation of the local history by the Creoles and the Indians until the second half of the 18th Century aims at establishing continuity between the local past and the Spanish past and to give and essential role to the greatness of the Empire of Peru.
