Construction and development of an interests questionnaire for Psychology

This paper presents a questionnaire that evaluates the vocational interests of undergraduate Psychology students. The construction and development of this 21 item scale is grounded on a solid theoretical basis and its pertinence derives from the lack of specific tools to measure particular vocational areas. A sample of 573 undergraduate Psychology students (433 women) attending nine different public and private higher education institutions was used. Factorial analyses enabled the examination of organizational, educational and clinical dimensions. These explain 62.51% of the total variance. This scale shows good internal consistency scores (values ranging between .86 and .93). Lastly this paper pinpoints the importance of developing further studies in order to validate and confirm findings.
