摘要：
Aging and old age are phenomena of nature and culture. The historical development of observations and interpretations in the medical and cultural disciplines from Antiquity to Modern Times are presented. Specific attention is given to the different divisions of phases of life and especially the different estimation of the aging process and the old age.
