Are researchers right when they complain about media coverage of science? Experiences with journalism students and scientists

This paper shows the results of an experimental research based on comparative study of a number of news report on science and technology, and statements of scientific researchers and technologists in which such news report are based. The goal is to understand the semantic discrepancy between stated by researchers and written by journalists. This work takes into account the common interest of both professional groups to achieve high quality of scientific culture, as an indicator of social development. The methodology carried out in different news report analyzes the mistakes made by journalists, as directed by the scientists. Furthermore, by applying the features of specialized journalism, we have categorized the corrections made by the researchers interviewed in the news report. The topics of reportages include several areas of knowledge.
