Evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments should be considered for youth with emotional dysregulation and a clear history of both trauma exposures and resultant traumatic stress. ? Trauma-informed approaches to severely emotionally dysregulated youth, including youth in in-patient and residential settings, can improve emotional and behavioral outbursts while maintaining the safety of the milieu. ? Knowledge about trauma exposures and symptoms is an important consideration when prescribing psychopharmacologic interventions in severely emotionally dysregulated
