Identification of MTBE in water by SPME and GC-MS

摘要
The identification of methyl tertbutyl ether (MTBE) in water by using solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography (GC) - mass spectrometry (MS) is discussed. SPME has been used as a rapid alternative for extracting organic environmental pollutants. A fused-silica fiber coated with an appropriate stationary phase mounted into a holder resembling a GC syringe. This fiber can be inserted into a vial containing the liquid sample or into the headspace just above a liquid or solid sample. The analysis of extracts with GC-MS by combining MS data with retention index information has enabled the identification of MTBE compounds in water.
