摘要
Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness tests were carried out with glass satin woven fabric vinylester composites. The satin woven fabric composites were fabricated by varying both concentration of silane coupling agent and weave structure. The crack growth behaviour of the satin woven fabric composites changed from a stable to unstable pattern with varying interfacial properties and weave structure. The effects of interfacial properties and weave structure on the crack growth behaviour of the satin woven fabric composites have been discussed on the basis of optical observations of the cross-section of the crack propagating plane. The fracture toughness for the satin woven fabric composites strongly depended on both interfacial properties and weave structure. The various contributions to the total fracture toughness of the satin woven fabric composites have been discussed on the basis of SEM observations of the mode I fracture surface.
