A synthesis of racemic oleocanthal has been accomplished in 11 steps from 1,3 propanediol by a key tandem intramolecular Michael cyclization-Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons olefination. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
