Microscopic study of α clustering in 12C, 24Mg and 48Cr

A microscopic three-cluster model is used to investigate the C-12, Mg-24 and Cr-48 nuclei, described by alpha + alpha + alpha, O-16 + alpha + alpha and Ca-40 + alpha + alpha configurations, respectively. For each system, a fairly good agreement with experiment is obtained. We essentially focus on the Cr-48 nucleus for which a band structure is suggested. In addition to the well-known ground-state band, we predict the existence of additional bands. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
