摘要
Hypochondriasis (HC) is categorized as a somatoform disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition text revised, because of excessive focus on bodily symptoms. Contemporary conceptualizations, however, propose that HC represents an intense form of health anxiety. This article discusses the clinical features of HC, outlines a contemporary conceptual model of HC as health anxiety, and reviews effective treatments supported by clinical research. The article concludes by considering the relationship between HC and obsessive-compulsive disorder in the greater context of proposals for a spectrum of obsessive-compulsive disorders.
