Prophylaxis post-transplant: The role of monitoring surveillance bronchoscopy and antimicrobials

Successful pulmonary transplantation depends upon monitoring of both graft and patient for early identification of problems that can otherwise progress rapidly, leading to morbidity and mortality. The strategies used to monitor patient and graft function vary among institutions, and different strategies are employed according to the amount of time elapsed after surgery. This article discusses surveillance and prophylaxis in immediate, early, and late periods after transplantation.
