The effect of die geometry on the double shear extrusion by parametric FVM simulation

2D axi-symmetric finite volume method (FVM) simulations were carried out in order to visualize the proper die geometries at various parametric conditions for the double shear extrusion (DSE). Dead zone occurrence varied with die geometry. Very high effective strains (about 2-4) were detected after DSE. Applying smaller taper rather than raising temperature could decrease the inhomogeneity of the strain distribution. (C) 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd. on behalf of Acta Materialia Inc.
