Electronic structure of d0 vanadates obtained by x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopies

摘要
We present experimental results for x-ray absorption at the L-2,L-3-edge of vanadium in V2O5, YVO4 and LaVO4 compounds and at the M-4,M-5-edge of lanthanum in LaVO4 compound. The data are interpreted in terms of the multiplet structure of the transition metal ion V5+ (d(0)) and rare earth ion La3+ (d(0)). The data are compared with calculations in the free-ion approximation for La and including the effects of the D-4h ligand field and charge transfer for V. These calculations allow a direct interpretation of the absorption spectra. Good overall agreement between experiment and theory is found. We also show resonant x-ray emission (XES) data for these compounds obtained at the top of the L-2 excitation.
