摘要
Advanced oxidation processes, such as photocatalysis, have shown a great potential for removing the toxic chemical pollutants. In the current work, photocatalytic reduction of Chromium (VI) is studied using combustion synthesized TiO2. The activity of combustion synthesized TiO2 was compared with the activity of TiO2 synthesized using sol-gel method, and with commercially available Aeroxide P25 catalyst. Effect of different parameters, namely, catalyst loading, initial concentration of Cr (VI), pH and various fuels in combustion synthesis on the photocatalytic activity were investigated. Maximum reduction was observed for TiO2 synthesized using glycine as a fuel at a catalyst loading of 0.5 g/L and an acidic pH of 4. The combustion synthesized TiO2 was significantly active for the reduction of Cr (VI) than other catalysts used in the study.
