Digital transmission line model for hybrid real-time simulation

This work presents a new approach for the implementation of stand-alone digital AC/DC transmission line models for transient studies in real-time simulators. The model replaces advantageously the conventional analog models based on R-L-C PI-sections, due to a better representation for the propagating waves along the line. Furthermore, it is cheaper, has an easier and less time consuming setup procedure and takes less physical space in the simulator room. The hardware and the mathematical equations used in the implementation of the model will be presented. Also, the operation of the model in the simulator will be shown,with comparisons between the real-time digital model and the conventional analog model.
