The need to utilize industrial by-products in construction allied to the need to improve the performance of asphalt concrete mixes for heavier traffic has led to many experiments with rubber to improve asphalt cements. This paper reports the evaluation of chemically treated ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) as a modifier in asphalt concrete mixes. The EPDM was added to AC 10 and AC30 cements and the modified cements compared to normal AC30 and a commercial polymer modified asphalt in Marshall design mixes. The EPDM blends produced comparable performance to the normal and polymer modified mixes.
