摘要
The consequences of the anthropogenic greenhouse effect caused by the use of fossil energy sources and actions to prevent it are debated worldwide. This paper analyses the possible contribution of heat or electricity derived from solid biomass to reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions in the European Union (EU). The results and discussion are based on the already used biomass and the existing potentials as well as cost considerations for the provision of useful energy from biomass. About 2-8% more CO2 would be emitted within the EU without the current use of solid biomass. An estimate of the remaining solid biomass potential indicates that CO, emissions could be reduced by a further 7-28%. Therefore, biomass could make a significant contribution to meeting the Kyoto Protocol targets.
