Depression, jealousy, suicidal ideation and relationship with suicide risk, in the Spanish population

Introduction: Jealousy, depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide risk are associated with suicide. Attention on these factors focusses on efforts to understand how to prevent su-icides. General objective: Study the relationship of jealousy, depres-sion, suicidal ideation, and suicide risk in the population of Spain. Method: The sample is composed of 246 Spanish citizens. Instruments: In July 202, the participants responded to a battery of tests: the Instrument for the Evaluation of Patho-logical Jealousy (CECLA), the Spanish version of the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Spanish version of the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (PANSI), and the "Scale of Suicide Risk" (RS). The meth-odological strategy used was transversal predictive. Results: Using a binary logistic regression model, we found that the variables age, sex, family income level, suicidal ide-ation, and depression predict between 46% and 76% of the variance of suicide risk. Conclusions: It was found that the older the person, the more suicide risk and greater depression. The odds ratio of the gender variable indicates that men have a suicide risk 4.5 times greater than women. Similarly, the suicide risk increases with a low level of family income, a high level of depression, suicidal ideation and few protective factors. These results should be considered in suicide prevention programs.
