摘要
The sudden boom in the automobile industry in the past few decades has led to production of enormous amounts of rubber tyres every year. Proper alternative means of disposal are searched continuously by the researchers. In this study, the optimum percent of crumb rubber suitable for the selected soil sample is determined by conducting the strength test on soil with the addition of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% crumb rubber. With the optimum 10% of crumb rubber the short term strength (3 and 7 days) characteristics of rubberized soil with varying percentages (3, 5, 7 and 9%) of Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag (GGBS) is studied. It is observed that crumb rubber can be used an alternative method of stabilizing soil along with GGBS as a binding material which further increases the strength and gives long term durability. It also paves way for effective means of waste management of industrial wastes both ecologically and economically. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
