摘要
ID wave action simulation has been extensively used in the design of a new turbocharged spark ignition engine. The inlet and exhaust manifold design, turbocharger match and valve timing were all optimised using the models. A prototype engine was constructed from components manufactured to the dimensions given by the simulation. This paper investigates the ability of the simulation to predict the performance of the engine. The results from the simulation are compared with the first engine test results, and the accuracy of the predictions presented. The relative strengths and weaknesses of this approach are discussed. Where the models were found to be deficient, further investigations have been made to determine the cause of the inaccuracies and suggestions for improvement are made.
