The view that drug and alcohol abuse is associated with violence and aggressive behaviour enjoys considerable support by a number of older and recent publications, the majority of which look at the effect of alcohol. Recent studies on possible aetiological and contributing factors, new approaches and research issues (difficulties, new directions) are of particular interest for planning more effective preventive and treatment strategies.
