摘要
Distortion in source current, voltage and power factor is due to nonlinear electrical devices used at load side. Which produces harmonic pollution and may damage or responsible for false operation of equipment connected to it. Shunt Active power filters (SAPF) are the emerging devices, which can effectively mitigate harmonics and improves current waveforms and also supplies reactive power to the load. This paper focuses on the design and validation of SAPF based on Instantaneous Reactive Power algorithm to mitigate the current harmonics and Reactive Power Compensation (RPC) which are generated by nonlinear loads. MATLAB/Simulink tool is used for simulate the system and for obtaining the results. For validation of the results real time simulator OP4510 made by OPAL-RT is used which gives actual response of the system. The obtained results are within the limits recommended by IEEE-519 standard (THD < 5%) and also the reactive power demand is almost zero.
