摘要
We study the influence of long-term operation and high-cycle loading under laboratory conditions on the electrochemical characteristics of low-strength carbon steels. It is established that both cycling and long-term operation decrease the corrosion resistance and strongly affect the electrochemical characteristics of steels. It is also demonstrated that the polarization resistance is a quite sensitive informative parameter for the evaluation of the in-service degradation of steels of gantry cranes. We reveal a correlation between the changes in the impact toughness regarded as a characteristic of brittle fracture resistance and the changes in the polarization resistance, which can be used as basic for the creation of a new nondestructive method of diagnostics of the degradation of steels of gantry cranes after long-term operation.
