摘要
Though relatively mature, neutron diffraction residual stress determination is still not broadly known. No single technique can provide a comprehensive data set or be suited to all applications, but the unique capabilities of neutron diffraction often makes it the best tool. Highly penetrating yet gentle, neutron diffraction is a uniquely powerful and non-destructive tool for mapping stresses inside many full-scale industrial components. The basics of the technique will be explained and a number of examples where industry has used neutron diffraction to aid in product development, failure analysis and addressing the concerns of regulatory bodies will be presented.
