Investigation of the luminescence properties of Sm3+ activated mixed alkali borate glasses

摘要
Mixed alkali borate glasses with composition 20Li(2)O-20Na(2)O-(60-x)B2O3: xSm(2)O(3)(x = 0.1, 1, 5 and 12 mol%) (LNBSm) were developed by melt quenching technique. Physical, optical and Luminescence properties were investigated by density, absorption, photoluminescence, decay time and CIE Chromaticity. At 402 nm excitation wavelength, the photoluminescence spectra showed four emission peaks at 563, 599, 645 and 706 nm wavelengths were observed. The most intense emission peak was observed at 599 nm corresponding to (4)G(5/2) -> H-6(7/2) transition of Sm3+ ion. At 1.0 mol% of Sm2O3 concentration quenching point was observed. The lifetime found to be decreasing from 2.78 to 0.51 ms with increasing concentration of Sm3+ due to the energy transfer between Sm3+ ions through cross relaxation mechanism. The CIE diagram of the present glass samples showed orange light emission. On the basis of the mentioned study. LNBSm glass could be a best host for the orange light emitting materials.
