Experimental investigation of an anisotropic hardening model for soft clays

摘要
A programme of triaxial stress path tests on samples of Otaniemi clay from Finland was undertaken to investigate the validity of an elasto-plastic constitutive model for normally consolidated natural anisotropic soft clays proposed by Wheeler (1997). Within the model the anisotropy of plastic behaviour is represented through a rotational component of hardening. Tests were performed to determine the initial orientation of the yield surface, and to examine the rotation and final orientation of the yield surface following plastic straining along different stress paths. In the light of these tests a modification to the rotational hardening law is proposed.
